BITTER KOLA: HEALTH BENEFITS, TRADITIONAL USES,SIDE EFFECTS AND SAFETY

Introduction: Bitter kola is a tropical plant that grows in West Africa, including Nigeria. Its scientific name is Garcinia kola. The seed is widely known for its bitter taste and its traditional uses in African communities. Many people chew bitter kola as part of their daily lives and cultural practices.. 2 Bitter Kola comes from a tropical tree that grows naturally in forested areas The tree produces fruits containing seeds. These seeds are usually brownish and have a bitter taste when chewed. The plant is valued in traditional African medicine and is used in various cultural practices. Its seeds contain natural chemical compounds that researchers are studying for their possible effects on human health.3. Nutritional and Chemical Composition Bitter kola contains several natural plant compounds, including:1. Flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties.2. Tannins, which contribute to its bitter and astringent taste.3. Phenolic compounds, which are studied for their antioxidant activity.4. Other natural substances that may have biological effects. The amounts of these compounds may vary depending on the plant and how the seeds are processed. More research is needed to understand their effects on human health.4. Health Benefits of Bitter KolaBitter kola has several traditional uses, and scientists have investigated some of its possible health effects.A. Antioxidant PropertiesBitter kola contains plant compounds that have shown antioxidant activity in laboratory studies. Antioxidants help protect cells against damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals. However, the health benefits of eating bitter kola require further human research.B. Respiratory HealthIn traditional medicine, bitter kola is sometimes used for cough and throat discomfort. However, there is insufficient scientific evidence to confirm that it effectively treats respiratory illnesses.C. Anti-inflammatory PropertiesSome compounds found in bitter kola have shown possible anti-inflammatory effects in experimental studies. More research is needed to determine whether these effects provide meaningful benefits in humans.D. Antimicrobial PropertiesLaboratory studies have investigated whether bitter kola extracts can act against certain microorganisms. These findings do not mean that chewing bitter kola can cure bacterial or viral infections.E. Blood Sugar ResearchResearchers have investigated the possible effects of bitter kola on blood glucose. However, there is not enough reliable evidence from human studies to recommend bitter kola as a treatment for diabetes.F. Eye Health ResearchA small study involving healthy adults reported a temporary reduction in eye pressure after bitter kola consumption. This does not establish bitter kola as a treatment for glaucoma or other eye diseases.5. Traditional Uses of Bitter KolaBitter kola has been used traditionally in different African communities for various purposes, including:1. Chewing as a cultural and social practice.2. Freshening the mouth.3. Traditional remedies for cough and throat discomfort.4. Traditional preparations for certain stomach complaints.5. Cultural ceremonies and hospitality. These uses are part of traditional knowledge and should not be regarded as proof that bitter kola can prevent or cure diseases.6. How Bitter Kola Is ConsumedBitter kola is commonly consumed by chewing a small piece of the fresh seed. Some people also use it in traditional preparations. There is no universally established medical dosage for bitter kola. It is advisable to avoid excessive consumption because its long-term safety and possible interactions with medicines are not fully understood.People should not assume that mixing bitter kola with honey, water or other herbs makes it more effective or safer.7. Possible Side Effects of Bitter Kola Although bitter kola is a natural product, it may not be suitable for everyone. Possible concerns include:1. Stomach discomfort or irritation in some people.2. Unknown effects from frequent or excessive consumption.3. Possible interactions with medicines.4. Uncertain safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding.People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking regular medication or living with a medical condition should seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before using bitter kola medicinally.8. Bitter Kola and Diabetes Bitter kola is sometimes promoted as a natural remedy for diabetes. Some experimental research has investigated its possible effects on blood glucose, but there is not enough strong human evidence to establish its safety and effectiveness for controlling diabetes.People living with diabetes should continue their prescribed medication, follow their healthcare professional's advice and monitor their blood glucose as recommended.Bitter kola should not replace insulin, prescribed diabetes medicines or other proven treatments.9. Difference Between Bitter Kola and Ordinary Kola (koa nut).Bitter kola and ordinary kola (Kola nut ) are different plants.Bitter kola has the scientific name Garcinia kola. Ordinary kola nuts commonly come from Cola nitida or Cola acuminata.Bitter kola is known for its distinctive bitter taste and traditional medicinal uses. Ordinary kola nuts are known for containing caffeine and are traditionally used as stimulants and in cultural ceremonies.Although both plants are used in West African communities, their chemical compositions and effects are different.10. Precautions When Using Bitter KolaTo use bitter kola responsibly, consider the following precautions:1. Avoid excessive consumption.2. Do not use it as a replacement for prescribed medicines.3. Seek medical advice before using it to treat a health condition.4. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek professional advice before medicinal use.5. People with diabetes or other chronic illnesses should discuss its use with their healthcare professional.6. Seek medical attention if you experience an adverse reaction.11. ConclusionBitter kola, scientifically known as Garcinia kola, is a tropical plant with cultural importance and a long history of traditional use in West Africa. Its seeds contain natural compounds that researchers are investigating for possible antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. However, many claimed health benefits have not been firmly established in human studies. Further research is needed to determine its effectiveness, appropriate dosage and long-term safety.Bitter kola may be an interesting subject for nutrition and health research, but it should be consumed responsibly and should never replace proven medical treatment Disclaimer: This article is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before using bitter kola to manage a health condition.

7 foods that may help control blood sugar naturally

7 Foods That May Help Control Blood Sugar Naturally Managing blood sugar is an important part of living well with diabetes. The foods we eat can affect blood glucose levels, so choosing balanced meals can help support better blood sugar management. Some foods contain fibre, protein, and healthy fats that may slow digestion and help reduce sharp rises in blood glucose after meals. In this article, we discuss seven nutritious foods that can form part of a healthy eating plan for people with diabetes. Why Do Some People with Diabetes Develop Organ Damage Earlier Than Others? Some people live with diabetes for more than 20 years without developing serious damage to organs such as the kidneys, liver, or heart, while others may develop complications after only five years. Why does this happen? The risk and timing of diabetes-related organ damage can vary from person to person. Important factors include how high blood glucose levels remain over time, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking, body weight, physical activity, the type and duration of diabetes, family history, and other health conditions. Some people may also have diabetes for years before it is diagnosed, meaning complications may already be developing before treatment begins. Regular monitoring and good diabetes management can help reduce the risk of complications. This may include taking prescribed medicines correctly, following a balanced eating plan, staying physically active, avoiding smoking, attending medical appointments, and checking for kidney, eye, nerve, heart, and liver problems when recommended. However, even people who manage their diabetes carefully can develop complications, so regular professional care is important. 1. Beans and Lentils Beans, lentils, and other legumes contain fibre and plant-based protein. Their carbohydrates are generally digested more slowly than those in many refined foods. Examples include black-eyed beans, brown beans, kidney beans, and lentils. How to eat them: Enjoy a moderate portion of cooked beans with vegetables and a balanced meal. Remember that beans still contain carbohydrates, so portion size matters. 2. Leafy Green Vegetables Vegetables such as spinach, ugu, waterleaf, and kale provide vitamins, minerals, and fibre. Many non-starchy vegetables are also relatively low in carbohydrates. How to eat them: Add leafy vegetables to soups, stews, and other meals. Try to avoid adding excessive salt or large amounts of unhealthy fats. 3. Oats Oats contain soluble fibre, including beta-glucan, which can help slow digestion and support healthy cholesterol levels. How to eat them: Choose plain oats instead of heavily sweetened instant varieties. Prepare them with water or unsweetened milk and add a small portion of nuts if desired. 4. Fish Fish provides protein, and oily fish such as sardines, mackerel, and salmon contain omega-3 fats that support heart health. Fish does not directly cure diabetes, but it can be part of a balanced eating pattern. How to eat it: Choose grilled, baked, steamed, or lightly cooked fish more often than heavily fried fish. 5. Nuts and Seeds Groundnuts, almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds provide healthy fats, fibre, and varying amounts of protein. These foods can make meals more satisfying, but nuts and seeds are energy-dense, so moderate portions are helpful. How to eat them: Choose unsalted nuts where possible and avoid varieties coated with sugar. 6. Whole Grains Whole grains such as oats, brown rice, and whole-grain bread generally contain more fibre than their refined equivalents. They can support a balanced diet, although their effect on blood sugar depends on the type, preparation, and portion size. How to eat them: Try replacing some refined grains with whole-grain alternatives and combine them with vegetables and protein. 7. Plain, Unsweetened Yoghurt Plain yoghurt provides protein and calcium. Some varieties also contain live cultures. Unsweetened yoghurt usually contains less added sugar than flavoured varieties. How to eat it: Check the nutrition label and choose a product without added sugar where possible. Compare carbohydrate content because natural milk sugars are still present. Other Important Tips for Managing Blood Sugar Food choices are only one part of diabetes management. These habits can also help: - Eat balanced meals and pay attention to carbohydrate portions. - Drink water regularly instead of sugary drinks. - Engage in physical activity suited to your health and abilities. - Monitor blood glucose as recommended by your healthcare professional. - Take prescribed diabetes medicines as directed. - Attend routine medical appointments. Can These Foods Cure Diabetes? No. There is no single food that cures diabetes. Healthy eating can help manage blood glucose, but people with diabetes may also need medication, monitoring, and professional medical care. Do not stop prescribed medicines or replace them with herbs, supplements, or special diets without consulting your healthcare professional. Conclusion Beans, leafy green vegetables, oats, fish, nuts, whole grains, and plain yoghurt can all contribute to a nutritious eating pattern that supports blood sugar management. The best food choices depend on a person's health needs, medications, preferences, and budget. A qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian can help develop a suitable eating plan. The 15 early sighs of diabetes you should never Ignore

Diabetes is a health condition that affects how the body regulates blood glucose, also called blood sugar. Glucose is an important source of energy, but too much glucose in the blood over time can damage different parts of the body. Recognising the warning signs of diabetes can help people seek medical attention early. Some people experience noticeable symptoms, while others may have diabetes without knowing it. In this article, we explain 15 possible warning signs of diabetes, why they occur, and when to seek medical advice. What Is Diabetes? Diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels become too high because the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. It helps glucose move from the bloodstream into the body's cells. The main types of diabetes include Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes, which develops during pregnancy. 15 Early Signs of Diabetes 1. Frequent Urination One possible sign of diabetes is urinating more frequently than usual, particularly at night. When blood glucose becomes too high, the kidneys may remove some of the excess glucose through urine. This can increase the amount of urine produced. 2. Excessive Thirst Frequent urination can cause the body to lose more water than usual. As a result, the person may feel unusual thirsty even after drinking water. 3. Increased Hunger Some people with diabetes feel hungry more often than usual. This can happen when the body cannot use glucose effectively to meet its energy needs. 4. Unexplained Weight Loss Losing weight can be a warning sign, particularly when accompanied by excessive thirst and frequent urination. When the body cannot use glucose properly, it may begin breaking down fat and muscle for energy. 5. Persistent Tiredness High blood glucose can be associated with fatigue and a lack of energy. However, tiredness has many possible causes, so it should not automatically be assumed to mean diabetes. 6. Blurred Vision High blood glucose can affect the fluid balance in the eyes, temporarily changing it.Although Persistent or sudden changes in vision require medical assessment. 7. Slow-Healing Wounds Some people with diabetes notice that cuts, sores, and other wounds take longer to heal. High blood glucose can affect circulation, immune function, and the body's ability to repair damaged tissue. 8. Frequent Infections Diabetes can increase the risk of certain infections, including some skin, urinary tract, and yeast infections. Repeated infections may be a reason to discuss blood glucose testing with a healthcare professional. 9. Tingling in the Hands or Feet Some people experience tingling, burning, numbness, or pain in their hands or feet. These symptoms can occur when diabetes damages nerves, although other conditions can cause similar problems. 10. Dry Skin Dry or itchy skin may occur in people with diabetes. Possible contributing factors include dehydration and changes in circulation. Dry skin alone does not establish that someone has diabetes. 11. Darkened Skin Around the Neck Dark, thickened patches of skin around the neck, armpits, or groin can sometimes be associated with insulin resistance. This condition is called acanthosis nigricans. It does not confirm diabetes, but a healthcare professional may recommend further assessment. 12. Numbness in the Feet Reduced sensation in the feet can develop when diabetes affects peripheral nerves. Anyone experiencing new or worsening numbness should seek medical advice, particularly if there are foot wounds. 13. Recurrent Gum Problems Diabetes may increase the risk of gum disease and other oral health problems. Bleeding gums, swollen gums, and persistent mouth problems should be assessed by a dental professional. 14. Irritability or Difficulty Concentrating Changes in blood glucose can sometimes affect concentration, mood, and general wellbeing. These symptoms have many possible causes and cannot diagnose diabetes on their own. 15. No Noticeable Symptoms One important fact is that Type 2 diabetes can develop without obvious symptoms. Some people discover they have diabetes only after a blood test or during a routine medical examination. This is why appropriate screening is important for people who may be at increased risk. How Can Diabetes Be Confirmed? Symptoms alone cannot confirm diabetes. A healthcare professional can recommend blood tests, such as: Fasting plasma glucose. HbA1c, which reflects average blood glucose over approximately two to three months. An oral glucose tolerance test, when appropriate. The correct test and interpretation depend on the person's circumstances. A healthcare professional should explain the results and whether further testing is needed. When Should You Seek Medical Help? Arrange a medical assessment if you experience persistent excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, or other possible signs of diabetes. Seek emergency medical care if you experience vomiting, abdominal pain, deep or rapid breathing, severe dehydration, confusion, or unusual drowsiness, especially when accompanied by symptoms of high blood glucose. These may indicate a serious emergency such as diabetic ketoacidosis. Can Diabetes Be Prevented? Type 1 diabetes cannot currently be prevented through established lifestyle measures. For many people at risk of Type 2 diabetes, regular physical activity, a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight where appropriate, and attending recommended health checks can help reduce risk. People who already have diabetes should work with their healthcare team to manage blood glucose and reduce the risk of complications. No single food, herb, or natural remedy has been established as a cure for diabetes. Conclusion Recognising possible signs of diabetes can help people seek medical advice earlier. Frequent urination, excessive thirst, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and blurred vision are among the symptoms worth discussing with a healthcare professional. However, some people have no obvious symptoms. Appropriate blood testing remains essential for diagnosis. If you are concerned about diabetes, speak with a qualified healthcare professional rather than relying on symptoms or home remedies alone. Why is it necessary to have blood glucose test?

Measuring your blood glucose levels allows you and your doctor to know if you have, or are at risk for, developing diabetes.
After you eat, the level of glucose in the blood rises sharply. The pancreas responds by releasing enough insulin to manage the increase level of glucose. Moving the glucose out of the bloodstream into the cells. This helps to bring the blood glucose to normal.
When is a person said to be at risk for or developing diabetes?
-          If a person has diabetes, two situation may cause the blood sugar to increase.
-          The pancreas does not make enough insulin.
-          The insulin does not work properly, as a result of either of these situation, the blood sugar level remains high a condition called hyperglycemia or diabetes mellitus.
                                                                                                SOLUTION
Is your pancreas not making enough insulin? Or is it that your insulin does not work properly? Resulting in making your blood sugar level high and you have tried various ways to bring it under control yet no marked result. Just like what happened at the pool, which is called in Hebrew tongue BETHESDA for an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water, whomsoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain mam was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years, the bible said that immediately Jesus saw him he knew he had been in the case for long. And asked him would you be made whole? The sick man answered him, sir I have no man, when the water was troubled, to put me into the pool, but while I am coming another stepped down into the pool before me. Jesus said unto him rise up take thy bed and walk. Immediately the man was made whole< john 5:1-9>.I don’t know how long you have suffered from diabetes, how many drugs or products, you have used trying to bring your blood glucose under control but no marked difference, but today if you can come to Jesus, repenting from every known and unknown sin, confessing your doubt, unbelief, weakness, calling upon God for mercy. In gospel of John chapter 5:24, it reads “Most assuredly, I say to you he who hears my word and believes in him who sent me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” I am assuring you, if you can believe today, God will transform you from death to life, from high blood glucose level to a normal blood glucose level, that is, from sickness to sound health or whatever challenge you are passing through, is it corona virus (COVID- 19), he is going to turn you to COVID- 19 free. If you believe begin to confess it out now! That you have passed from death to life, from sickness to sound health and that you now have power over sin, sickness and Satan. John 1:12,that is power of son-ship. And continue to confess it, because confession bring possession. And   I  give  you   3 day  after  reading this  message  go for a test !  You will see that GOD “ healing power as of  old  is working presently.

A new treatment method for diabetes !

Most people with diabetes will likely have wound that takes an eternity to heal. This is a common problems for people with diabetes.
But a new study this week revealed that new treatment methods could be on the horizon.
German researchers made a discovery that involves the role of insulin metabolism at the site of a wound, and now aim to develop drugs that activate insulin metabolism, which would increase the speed and efficiency of wound healing.
It is particularly important for people with diabetes to monitor foot wounds, which can lead to complications such as foot ulcers if not properly treated.
Foot ulcers, which can be caused by cuts, grazes and blisters, can affect up to 1 in 10 with the condition. If you have diabetes, foot care should be made a key part of your everyday routine. Foot ulcers are a leading cause of amputation which is why it is important to check your feet for any signs of damage and notify your doctor if there is.
If you have a wound on another part of your body that is taking a long time to heal or showing signs of infection, be sure to see your doctor
Earlier this year a naw treatment called maggot debridement therapy was found to have benefits for wound healing, while a study investigating the cause of slow wound healing in diabetes reported that the presence of fungi within wounds can be associated with longer healing times.
Also keeping good control of blood glucose levels can reduce the risk of slow healing wounds.
